In most restaurants who seem to care about their product..the food they serve…the manager or, in rare occasion, the chef will mingle among the tables to find out how their customers enjoyed their food. You would think they would be interested in hearing if their was a problem with the taste of the food, but in more and more cases I am experiencing an arrogance on their part to lead me to believe I am wrong and they are right.
What happened to “The Customer is always Right”?
Last evening was one of those evenings where the manager of the restaurant stopped by my table to ask “how is everything?”. It just so happened that I had just mentioned to my posse that my fajita beef was way too salty. One other in the posse mentioned that their spinach enchilada had little spinach and a lot of cheese with no mushrooms.
Assuming the manager was asking about the food I mentioned that my fajita meat was a bit too salty. His immediate response lead me to believe he was not really interested by remarking he would pass my feedback to the chef. It appeared the concerns to the spinach enchilada got even a more deaf ear.
The manager responded that they serve their fajitas a little saltier due to their customers tend to like it salty. As to the spinach enchilada’s..well, we serve the spinach enchiladas to a large number of people and have not had any concerns with the amount of the spinach.
What was this telling me?
I wish this was an isolated incident, but as you recall in one of my previous reviews for Lazy Dog in Addison the manager made his tone of his voice appear sympathetic, but his message was he was not interested in getting feedback that went against his interest.
I realize the restaurant industry is based on standards, but when the standards do not meet the interest of the general public they could result in a restaurant to go out of business. I really hope this attitude that the Customer Is Not Always Right changes soon.
Let me know how I can help.
(The name of the restaurant was deliberately not mentioned to keep from drawing attention to their establishment. You can review my Google+ Reviews to read my review for this date that will provide you the location.)
